Introducing: Dilana

For some the name Dilana might ring a bell to some of you. Maybe you know her as Dilana Smith or even Dilana Robichaux. One thing is sure and that is that Dilana has been around for quite some time. In 2000 she scored hits in The Netherlands with her songs Do You Now and To All Planets. Then in 2006 she became runner up on the CBS reality show Rockstar: Supernova. After that she went on an independent tour, opened for Aerosmith and starred in her first movie role in the independent movie Angel Camouflaged. In 2009 and 2013 she released 2 solo albums called Inside Out and Beautiful Monster. Then suddenly this season I decide to watch The Voice Of Holland and who is auditioning? It's Dilana! Unfortunately she got eliminated during the knockouts. After a little bit of background information it's now time to discover some of Dilana's music.

Dilana's voice is unmistakable, with her deep, smokey and big voice. Once you've heard it you will remember it. A good example of what Dilana can do is this original song called Supersoul that she performed on Rockstar: Supernova. Even with a torn calf muscle she rocks that song like no other can. There's an intensity in the performance that probably also comes from the eager to prove what she could do. Unofrtunately the quality of the video is terrible for today's standards, but it's the best one out there and the performance is just unique.

The next song is another original by Dilana. Holiday was written by Dilana, but first released by Allison Iraheta who was a contestant on American Idol Season 8. Later on Dilana decided to record the song herself and release it on her album Inside Out. The song is super catchy and the guitar riff will keep playing in your head forever.

Woman I Am is the opening song of Dilana's latest album Beautiful Monster which was released in 2013. Beautiful Monster is a slightly new and more mellow sound than what we've previously heard from her. Although the rock edge is definitely still there. This performance is even more mellow than the album version, but since it highlights Dilana's amazing raspy voice so well I wanted to share this one.

For updates on Dilana and when and where she's playing please check out her website or Facebook page. Please let me know in the comments what you think of Dilana and her music.
