Introducing: Connie Talbot

The name Connie Talbot might ring a bell for some people, but for others she might be completely unknown. In case her name rings a bell, I will now refresh your mind a little. In 2007 she auditioned for the first series of Britain's Got Talent, when she was only 6 years old. She made it all the way to the finals, but lost to Paul Potts. Connie never stopped making music, but also had a fairly normal life. Today she is 16 years old and I'd like to introduce you all to the Connie Talbot she is today.

It all started with Connie's audition. At the time she was only 6 years old and have never had any singing lessons. With her angelic voice she captured the audience and the judges.

It all started with Connie's audition. At the time she was only 6 years old and have never had any singing lessons. With her angelic voice she captured the audience and the judges.

After Britain's Got Talent she continued making music. So far she has released 4 studio albums, 1 live album and 1 EP. She also created a YouTube channel where she uploads covers and original songs. I have been fortunate enough to follow Connie on YouTube for years now. I have seen her grow up and develop and become better and better. From early on it was clear Connie was a star. This cover Defying Gravity (from the musical Wicked) just proves it. She was only 10 years old at the time. You can hear her voice hasn't fully developed yet, but if you're 10 years old and you can do this. Then you have a real talent. This still gives me chills when I listen to it.

This is Connie, about a month away from being 12 years old. This was during the recording process of her album Beautiful World. You can immediately tell her voice has grown so much already and she is getting better and better.

Down the line Connie learned to play both the piano and the guitar and she started writing original songs. This song was never released, but it's a sweet little song. You can tell her guitar playing hadn't been perfected yet here, yet she was confident enough to put out videos like this as well. How many 12 year old do you know that write a song like this and also have her voice and can play both piano and guitar? It's clear Connie is meant to be making music.

Here's Connie at 13 years old with her own rendition of Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. A lovely development to see her start to make her own version of songs.

Another original song, you can immediately tell the development in writing. Like Everyone Else was still a bit simple, but this song already is much more mature. Especially if you consider she's 14 years old here. If she can write songs with such dept and the age of 14 then I'm curious to see what she can do at age 24. Considering she will still be continuing to grow and develop herself.

Here we are at age 15. This cover is just simply beautiful. I keep mentioning the word development, but it's so important in her case. She has made such a beautiful and steady growth over the years. Her voice has grown stronger, you can tell she's confident in her singing and she also seems to have developed the emotional connection to a song. The emotional connection is something I had been waiting for to happen. You could tell in earlier videos that even though her voice was perfect, she didn't yet have the means to express the emotion of a song in her voice and expressions. This something I can see she is still growing in, but it's amazing to see how much she has grown through the years.

Then finally Connie's latest video. A mash-up of Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran and Faith by George Michael. This is a brilliant mash-up, I never thought these songs would work together, but somehow they work. It sounds brilliant. What I love the most about this video si that we are getting to see more and more of Connie's personality in her performance. Her facial expressions and the way she carries herself have developed so much in the last few years and I feel privileged that I get to watch this all unfold on YouTube. I am convinced Connie is a superstar, if she wants to pursue music professionally then I think there is a good chance she will make it big. She's got everything it takes to be a star, but in the mean time I hope she has a few more teenage years left, so she can keep enjoying that aspect of her life as well.

Please leave a reply in the comments to let me know what you think of Connie and her music.
